Sacriston Academy will undergo an exciting £300k makeover this summer as part of ongoing improvements to the school through their sponsorship by the North East Learning Trust.

The main renovations during the school holidays will see an un-used building demolished and a brand new top-of-the-range adventure playground built in its place.

The school will also benefit from a brand new reception area and significant IT upgrades. There are also plans for a MUGA sports pitch.

Ms Inkster, Headteacher at Sacriston Academy said: “We are very excited about all the improvements happening to the school over the summer. The middle building has been an eye-sore that has been pretty much unused in past years. Knocking it down will bring together both sides of the school and the new playground is sure to bring out lots of smiles! We can't wait to see everyone's faces on the first day back at school!”

Demolition starts on 23 July, with play equipment installer ‘Infinite Playgrounds’ selected in a process that involved the children taking part in choosing their preferred scheme.

The improvements have been possible due to funding directed to the school by the North East Learning Trust.
