On Tuesday our Reception pupils enjoyed a fantastic day at Hardwick Park to further develop their knowledge of minibeasts.
They started the day by participating in a fun trail around the forest where they had to search for the different foods that the caterpillar eats in the book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. They then went on a scavenger hunt to find natural materials to create their own artwork of a caterpillar or a butterfly on the forest floor.
After that, they created their own butterfly ornament to take home with them by using a mixture of leaves, pinecones and feathers. After lunch, the children were able to go pond dipping before going on a minibeast hunt. We found lots of interesting creatures including spiders, snails, centipedes and even a millipede!
