Our Year 4 class spent a day at Arbeia Roman Fort in South Shields last week to learn about the Roman invasion of Britain and their battles with the Celts.
Arbeia is a partially reconstructed Roman fort that guarded the sea route to Hadrian’s wall and was one of the busiest garrisons in our area.
Year 4 had a tour of the ruins and explored the site before taking part in a mock excavation for Roman artefacts. They then visited the museum where the children had to ‘scavenge’ for facts.
It was a lovely visit that endorsed their classroom learning - well done Year 4.
