Year 5 pupils recently visited Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve to improve their knowledge of their current topic - minibeasts.

The day was split into two activities - a thrilling minibeast hunt and a pond dipping activity.

The children were given an information leaflet and equipment to collect any minibeasts they found on their hunt. One group managed to find a moth that had just come out of its cocoon!

When the pupils moved onto pond dipping, they used nets to catch a wide variety of minibeasts, including water scorpions!

Over lunchtime, the children had a chance to play in a woodland village which is very similar to our very own 'Star Island' play area.

Aly and Megan, who led the activities, were very impressed with the attitude and behaviour of all pupils.

Well done to Year 5 for being Sacriston stars!
