Our Year 5 pupils have been learning a new and important skill in geography lessons this week!
The group did some mapping work using 6-figure grid references. Pupils identified key features on a local map, such as the telephone in Witton Gilbert and our school, before working out the 6-figure grid reference they belonged to.
Although it was a tricky challenge at first, our children thoroughly enjoyed finding items on the map, as well as learning how to read the references.
Our Sacriston stars discussed when they may need to use this skill and concluded that it would be very important if you were lost on a long walk or injured and required help from the emergency services.
