Sacriston Academy had a fabulous day celebrating World Book Day 2020 and we are sure you would agree that our children looked amazing!

Throughout the day, everybody took part in a wide range of activities and shared their love of stories and books.

In Nursery and Reception, the children explored new stories and listened to some of their teachers' favourites while Year 1 and 2 shared some of their favourite stories with their friends.

Year 3 began to explore the humorous works of Mo Willems whilst creating pigeon book covers to sell in our class shop as part of their 'money' learning topic.

Year 4 celebrated World Book Day in a variety of ways including writing their own stories based on an image of an abandoned area. The group also discussed their costumes and voted for their favourite among the class. They moved onto designing an alternative book cover for the characters they had dressed as before writing book reviews! To top off their day of fun the children created bookmarks for their novels and wrote acrostic poems based on World Book Day.

Our Year 5 children had a spectacular day celebrating all things books! To start with, the class took part in some hot seating relating to books they had read. After this, they came together in teams to take on a classroom book quiz! Later on, the class learned how to draw in the style of Tony Ross who illustrates books by David Walliams.

Year 6 started to think like authors, discussing techniques that writers have used in their favourite books to keep readers engaged. The children will be taking these techniques and using them in their next piece of writing to grip their readers!
