Monday 10th October was World Mental Health Day and around school the classes aimed to promote the notion of championing each other towards better mental health.
Reception talked about how we are all different and all special. They talked about how they need to look after themselves and gave compliments to each other. Maisie said, "Its good to talk to a friend," and Eleanor remembered that we need to "drink lots of water". After watching 'The Reflection in Me', Freddie said "she talked to herself and she was nice."
Year 1 created worry dolls so that they have an extra person to share their worries with.
Year 2 made their own mini me's after listening to 'Enzo's Egg', a story about safe spaces and knowing when a friend needs support. Their mini me's will be used for them to signal how they are feeling each morning, as an extra communication tool in class to express how we are feeling.
Year 3 read 'The Reflection in Me' and talked about the importance of always being kind to themselves. They played kindness bingo and had a session of 'We Eat Elephants' from the NHS piece of mind team, where they thought about strategies that could help them when they worry!
Year 4 watched a heart-warming, short fable called 'Reflection in Me', about a girl who looks in the mirror and doesn't always see a happy, joyous person. The mirror picks out all of her good qualities and talks to her about them, making her a much happy person who believes in herself. They then went on to think about positive thoughts and things that make them happy to write them as a short poem.
Year 5 had Eve in from the piece of mind team, discussing ways to help them spot a worry and deal with it quickly, leaning on those around them to feel better and pinpoint what to do next.
Year 6 shared strategies of how to overcome overthinking and what to do to help, and added their ideas to an acrostic poem. Some top tips included listening to sleep music to help you get to sleep, talking to someone you trust to get something off your chest and to exercise to take your mind off things.
Well done everyone!
