In a world where we are all connected by technology, it is important to stay safe online more than ever! Yesterday we marked National Safer Internet Day by taking part in a range of different activities based around this year's theme of ‘All fun and games? Exploring respect and relationships online’.

Our youngest children in Nursery started off by listening to the story 'Detective Duck'. Detective Duck explains that not everything on the internet is true. When accessing Purple Mash, the group knew that they all needed their own username and password to keep themselves safe.

Over in Reception, children spoke all about the importance of talking to our adults when using the internet, making sure they are aware of what they are up to online.

Year 1 looked at respectful online gaming chat while Year 2 looked at traditional tales, internet dilemmas and gave some fantastic advice!

Our Year 3 pupils spent time thinking about the games they play online and if they are age-appropriate. They were given pictures of a range of games and asked to sort them based on how old they thought users should be to play each game. Year 4 spent time recognising the importance of keeping safe online, discussing how often we use the internet, particularly in gaming.

Our elder children in Year 5 watched a variety of different videos based on how to stay safe online. They also spent time discussing gaming scenario cards while our eldest in Year 6 looked into the dangers of fake advertisements. They discovered how being anonymous online can make people behave differently to how they would behave in the real world.

Caleb said: "If you are not going to play the game nicely, don't play at all".

Kayden added: "You should not give out personal information."

Aimee explained: "You should speak to people online nicely and kindly - just like you would in real life. Being anonymous does not mean you should be unkind."
