Yesterday, Sacriston Academy celebrated Safer Internet Day. To celebrate the day, we took part in a variety of different activities and tasks, as well as a whole school assembly. We learnt the importance of staying safe online and shared ideas of what this may look like in different scenarios.

In Nursery, the group discussed what being safe on the internet means, watched a video from Mo and Jo who saw a video online that was scary and the importance of talking to adults if something makes you feel worried online.

In Reception the children shared a story about two friends playing online and the children learnt about what to do if someone is unkind online.

Year 1 have been discussing staying safe online today. The group have watched the PowerPoint about Mo and Jaz and discussed their experiences of being online. The class were able to talk about why Mo and Jaz felt sad and worried and many of them already knew that the best thing to do would be to tell an adult and ask for help. The class then used the questions posed to create their own mini poster.

Year 2 have been involved in whole-class discussions to voice their thoughts on what we can do to help support our friends if people are unkind to them online. The class then discussed who they would go to about their online issues. These ranged from friends and pets to the trusted adults in their lives.

Year 3 enjoyed taking part in the live lesson for Safer Internet Day. They took part in the interactive questions, making sure to work as a team to get as many answers correct as possible. We also talked about who we trust online and why it is important not to be influenced by people we don't personally know and trust. The class then took part in activities about how we can make the internet a safer place.

This morning Year 4 watched the Safer Internet Day Live Lesson and completed the activities. The class learnt what AI is, what we could do to keep safe with AI and what advice we would give to others to stay safe online. They really enjoyed watching the incredible AI robots and how advanced they were. This afternoon, Year 4 explored how technology changed over time and discussed how technology has improved our lives. The class predicted what technology might look like in the future and came up with lots of different ideas!

Year 5 celebrated by taking part in a BBC live lesson. The focus of this lesson was the world of AI and how prominent it is becoming in everyday life. The group began learning about what AI is and how it is used currently, we also looked at some common misconceptions surrounding AI and that some of these are not true. The class then discussed some of the risks involved with AI and the best ways to deal with these, before creating a poster with our top tips for staying safe online in an AI world.

Year 6 have been learning all about Artificial Intelligence (AI), and how it is used to make our lives easier. We also discussed different viewpoints of some uses of AI. The class made informative posters to show what they learned.

Well done everyone!
