Year 3 have been diving into the past learning all about the history of Sacriston.

The class found out that the village was named after the Sacristan monks from Durham Cathedral, who set up a farmhouse in the Sacriston area. The group also discovered the village grew as more people moved here to work in the Colliery before it closed in 1985.

The class were full of their own questions about the history of their local area!

Thomas: "Who created the graffiti in our area? Like the tiger next to school?"

Charlotte: "How many people worked at the mine?"

Ellie: "How many houses were built in Sacriston for the miners?"
