In the spirit of European Languages Day, children across school took part in different themed lessons and activities to mark the occasion.
In Year 1 the group learned all things French. The children listened to some French accordion music, learned where France is on a map and learned how to say "Hello, my name is..." in French!
Year 2 spent the week learning Italian. The group were taught to say a few basic phrases, such as how to greet and introduce ourselves, as well as counting to 10. Year 2 then had a whistle-stop tour of Italy's culture and history, culminating in designing their own pizzas with a range of healthy toppings.
Year 3 explored the Greek language. The class began by discussing the location of Greece on a map, before practicing saying some Greek greetings, such as hello and goodbye. Once the had mastered them, they moved on to Greek nursery rhymes and had a great time singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
Year 4 looked at Denmark, learning some basic words and phrases with some of them sounding very similar to English! The group located Denmark on a map and created a fact file including the Danish flag.
Year 5 learned how to say some different phrases in Greek such as hello, how are you?, please and thank you. The class then created an information poster welcoming people to Greece and including some of these phrases.
Year 6 chose German to delve into and explore some introductory phrases. The class learnt how to say 'my name is', 'my birthday is on', 'I am 10 years old' and how to count to twenty. The group then created a worksheet names 'All about me' and wrote out the German sentences based on the knowledge we had learnt.
Great work everyone, well done!
